finallly it is out... our new alpinechic compilation!!

alpination - the eclectic sound from the swiss alps!
alpination is officially the 3rd compilation from alpinechic, representing fresh beats and fun pop tunes from switzerland. not being biased within genres or images, but only concerning the unity of all fine underground sound makers in switzerland- that 's what this compilation is for. starting from idm, techno pop, trip-hop, to downtempo, and etc being all together in one album, you will be surprised to hear how they are so smoothly laid 'til the very end, not to mention you won 't get tired of listening to same thing all the way through.

big big thanks to Andy for the neverending net work, Donat for the artwork and Jin for the text, you've all done great!!

Alpinechic is preparing its yearly free mp3 compilation which will be out in january 2006 (submissions open until xmas!)
be prepared for some cool swiss qualitly music from the best underground bands around!

also another alpine hardware release for the new year: Tim and Puma Mimi, are releasing a very cute album on vinyl with their (un)usual and unique blend of Japan-bleep-lofi-techno-pop which features new songs as well as totally danceable remixes from the likes of saalschutz, seelenluft and ohrstrom. From what i heard it s more than just music ;) a work of art!
Record release party the 5.January 2006 in the Dachkantine. GANBATTE!

Le Zero is working on his album... with no stress, just organising some sessions right now.

My friends from Camp released their album "Iconography" on alpinechic.
we all long waited for their long play and it was well worth it!!
it has also a stunning design and since i mixed it i can't but recommend it ;)

yesterday we mastered camp "Iconography" at the echochamber
really a pretty record! well soon on alpinechic...

pureape found also a distribution so soon our albums will be available in the best shops in switzerland (though our online shop will still be cheaper).
=)

i m also working on le zero, arranging and recording... hopefully the album will be finished by the end of the year, this time i m using a lot of acoustic instruments (guitar, bass, harp, vibraphone and more...) and it will take a lot of time to record all... but i m not in a hurry.

i finished mixing another album yesterday and i was lucky as i really like their music :)

Camp "Iconography" which is a nice catchy pop-rock album with 80s influences: sometimes pure guitars, sometimes synth pop with a hint of lofi coolness, will be released in October on Alpinechic as a CD release.
in the meantime you can download their previous releases on alpinechic

also new release on alpinechic this friday: Centerpole "Waiting for Her" which i mastered at the stettlab studio.
also a great (and free) ep with lounge & chill out sounds from the swiss capital berne. i m quite sure this will go round around the globe as a netrelease, it has really quality.
nice grooves and relaxing smooth sounds for the incoming autumn. enjoy!

as it seems then lezero will start working on his own album! well as soon as i make it to tune that harp... argh!!

after finishing the pureape album, there is more coming up...
we will release another great band under our record label alpinechic, Camp who were already on the netlabel.
i will be mixing their album in august, quite happy! =)
hopefully somebody will like these albums... and buy them!

anyway looks like i ll spend the whole summer in the studio like a caveman, but in fact who cares, the weather here has been so bad this year...
well i ll get some vacation in a hot sunny place right after..
and of course september i will start my own le zero thing... i have a couple of really good songs and i cant wait finally to work on them.

still undecised about the audio school, many people told me it s useless... mmm have to think about it well. :S

Pureape Album finished!

after a month of intense recording and mixing, we finally mastered our album yesterday...
wow... i think i have never worked so hard for something. these last weeks i was working 20 hours a day. i even had to sleep in the studio, eat junk food everyday, no sunlight, not really a nice thing.
anyway we mastered yesterday & we are 3 happy monkeys now. =)
the album will come out in september on our label alpinechic.

yawn i m still soooooooo tired...

after more than half a year of trying to find a job, i found out why i cant find one. i wont explain in detail here but i m going back to school soon.
i m more than happy, even though it will cost me time and money, but after long talks with family, friends and professionals.. i decided to go to the audio engineering school.
i m not sure if i need it, but i surely need the papers and contacts.
anyway i know now that, it s the right thing for me... i just cant lie to myself anymore to think that having a job as food engineer and earning good money will make me happy. it wont. that s always been just a pressure on me.
i m quite sure i will make my way in the studio...

i sent the jingles yesterday and got already feedback.
all in all they werent impressed, but they might hire me for some electronic jingles.
i guess the more acoustic ones were a little too obvious or just not acoustic enough, since they were entirely made with computer (except for some guitar), but they liked the electronic jingles.
needless to say that it took me like 1 hour for the electronic ones and maybe 2 days for the acoustics... :S
anyway i m not too disappointed, since i have a chance now to start with that kind of work.

still in a complete time deficiency... had to work 20 hours with almost no stops yesterday slept 3 hours and then today almost the same.
the pureape album will be a big event and we really cant miss the chance, but it takes so much time and so much detail...
well in the end i m sure we will be happy and proud about our "baby-monkey"! nothing comes from nothing soooo... forza!

so much to do...
havent had time to post, but many music projects coming up: recording albums, demos, jingles, tours, mastering... uff

the pureape gig went well, a part from the storm 2 hours before the gig..
in fact some rain was dropping on us during soundcheck, quite dangerous for us and equipment... and we thought nobody would come, since it was pouring down.
but it stopped and 1 hour later the place was full =)
it was fun but so hot.. (-_-,) phew.. i should have taken the bathing suit..
i would have done some stage diving hoho
well, anyone who s been there knows...
i dont think i can post any pics though, nobody was bothered to take any so....

well this was it with the Sue Ellen bar, as they will tear the place down soon
no more alpinechic parties there... sigh sigh =(

another great summer weekend is over..
there is nothing nicer than swimming in the cool lake when outside it s soooo warm.
i even managed to go watching the last star wars movie.. as usual i m a little disappointed, though this was better than the last 2
it s that kind of movie that i wouldnt usually go to watch but since i was such a fan of the old trilogy i have to see how it ends (well begins...)
i dont know compared to the old ones, though the special effects are amazing, the story is flat, the acting poor and also why put those dramatic strings during the whole movie?!?!... less is more
ok i enjoyed it after all =) especially i was the only person in the whole theatre they even asked me if i wanted the break lol (for those who dont know: in switzerland there is always a break in the middle of the movie)

and of course so many parties and festivals. went to a latinamerican festival with friends here and it was a really nice atmosphere and good food, but the music really... i cant stand it more than 1 hour. definetly not my thing
and also i went to a pure 80's music party... well that was another dismissal for my ears. i really try to be open to it, but it just doesnt work.at least not the mainstream sound that they played that night...
madonna, u2, simple minds, europe and duran duran... no no no no no no no. sorry

instead i was revisiting much of 90s music lately and to my surprise there was so much good music...
a part from the punk rock, alternative thing in the beginning (think of smashing pumpins, radiohead or nirvana... or red hot chili peppers), the brit pop thing with blur, oasis and loads more, the shoegazer stuff (my bloody valentine s loveless is also from '91) there were also such unforgettable electronic albums from the likes of tricky, massive attack and goldie s masterpiece timeless... and air s moon safari... and aphex twin, the prodigy and and and...
hail the 90s!!

ok anyway i started some mastering works for a friend s album. i m sure it will adjust my ears in time for the pureape album. and i wrote another song for le zero... a summer mood one hehe
i m starting preparing the production works very soon.
for the rest... well after all this revisiting i need something refreshing in my itunes.... any tips out there??

i was about to go to my hometown in the italian part of switzerland, but so many people invited me to their parties that i had to stay.. i'll have to go later which is ok, but i hope i wont miss out some special concert&gigs.
so many cool things right now. i m still not sure if i m going to see coldplay there, but quite nice that they are performing there where i once used to play as a child...
which makes me think about my hometown... i m a little schizo about this issue...i still dont know whether i like it or not. because i like many things about it, but i have so many bad memories too that everytime i go there i m almost afraid.
i definetely like the food and the language better, and of course the weather and the nature around are so much nicer than zurich. but i could never go back there. there is not a single cell in me that wants to go back there. i really dont even know why i call it my hometown.
i dont have a hometown, only a town where i used live. a city where i was born, a country to place my origins, a place i m staying now. and somewhere else i might move to...

had quite a nice weekend
bbq in the garden, ping pong matches, first swims in the lake and playing music of course.
and i decided to record a demo with my rock-indie band. it s about time, i think we are ready now. i just think we better not record it in our place but find some other studio.
too much stress for that since i m the only one who understands recording and mixing stuff with them and i also have to play guitar, bass and sing... anyway =) cant wait for a 2 days off in the studio...thats like holidays.
also i finally made it to go to the cinema again.
but yesterday s headache attack after the rehearsals my oh my...i think i forced too much on singing that my head almost exploded after. at least it didnt last long...
anyway a nice enjoyable summer weekend. i m ready for more =)

le zero restarted

i finally made it to write some new songs for le zero project. i m really happy as i seemed to be blocked for some reason but today i wrote a really good song... so i m particularly happy [especially about my bass part... i m funky =) ]
anyway this means i m almost done with writing since i have about 10 new songs, soon i ll be recording and i m sure a couple of other things will also come out in the studio.but i really need some creative and jazzy keyboard or rhodes player now... one who can also help me with the arrangements. and i need also some help with the lyrics... i m not so good at it.
anybody out there????

....well well.... all this after we finish the pureape album. i have to set some priorities, since pureape album urges to be finished. many plans right now: gigs, record, radio show&small tour... so much work (-_-;)

it came out somewhere this year and i didnt even know...
what a great surprise! i was wondering if he was still making music and yep!! i discovered his homepage =)

another artist who deserves much more attention and doesnt even have a label (at least i think so).
i was waiting for some music like this. electro acoustic songwriting at its finest, quiet, intense, warm, mellow and what a great voice!!

i cant believe it happened again... i m getting very angry with the post! no not the blog i mean the real post!
it is already the 2nd time one of my packages gets thrashed out and some of the content stolen or lost.

ok. for the rest pureape is recording the album, it s coming quite good. i know it will take some time to get everything right, but i havent done any studio work for a long time now takes some time to get the ears back to that kind of aware listening.
anyway we have no gigs planned until august.so enough time
also my le zero project is on hold for a couple of weeks, but im sure i ll be starting again very soon.
organising some musicians to come in for the recordings. i m quite excited about it actually. i only need to write a couple of songs more...

also new Rei Harakami album came out (Lust). i hope it will be available on cd soon also here in switzerland (for now it isnt even available on itunes) =(

just a very quick post... i still have no pictures.
the gig was ok. it could have been better, not so much people came, since it was too hot to stay in such a place yesterday.
but those who were there seemed quite happy. i wasnt happy about the sound though, i couldnt hear the music properly during the whole concert, i couldnt hear my voice when i was singing
though i enjoyed Lucern.. it s quite famous internationally.. probably the most visited swiss city by tourists

just a quick post... so much to do lately
awww we live in a complicated world (-_-;)
i m kind of too lazy with things that i have to do, especially when i have a lot of time i tend to think - oh i have time for that later... and then later becomes tomorrow and so on
when i dont have time at all i would just do it... well i guess i need some stress to become active.
anyway tomorrow i m playing with pureape in Lucern, probably the last gig until august.
yep, we need some time off to finish the recordings now, no more gigs and no more rehearsal for a while...
but i ll be posting the pictures later.

also i need to get my le zero project restarted... i m pretty sure soon i ll be working more than full time, so i should use this time i have now
but writing songs is unpredictable.... someitmes you need 2 years to finish a bad one, and sometimes you only need 10 minutes for a hit (haha as if i ever had a hit.... i am not speaking for myself here, i m just saying)
and right now i m a little stuck. anyway i realise i ll need some keyboard/piano player as i really want it to have more of a live feeling, this record. instead of sterile pc programming, more acoustic instruments and less digital sounds..
we ll see =)

i m quite worried... haha
i havent been writing songs for le zero for a long time now.. and the main reason for it is that i have been feeling at peace and happy...
that kind of feeling makes me just want to do other things, rather than express myself, i really dont have any need of writing.
right now i only want to play bass (as soon as my hand recovers)
it seems being happy isnt creative for me... all the latest stuff i have been doing well to put it down in 2 words: it sucks
why is that? strange strange
i m not so sure whether i should harm myself now and try to be down, just to make sure i finish my record =P
just kidding...

i've been quite busy this last days... a lot of unexpected work at home... and nothing really interesting going on (a part from listening to really nice music i've received =)
we finally started proper work on the pureape album, working on the guitar sounds with the pod (not the ipod lol) also i ve been recording some new bass parts for my other project...
i rediscovered my passion for bass!!i just love low frequencies and groove...
bass is like the connection between rhythm and harmony, it s simple to play but you can make it to the most interesting part, it looks cool (especially my fender precision), it s quite easy to record and it isnt out of tune all the time like guitars.
ok i ll stop praising the bass now... after all its just as important as any other instrument. it s just i like it more and also when i listen to songs it s always what i judge more critically...
anyway gotta go again now... phew (-_-;)

yesterday i got a package from a friend i met during my long trip to asia last summer with some really nice pictures of the time we spent traveling together.
=) i wasnt expecting it, so the surprise was really great when i opened the postbox! anyway after watching the pictures i felt like... oh man, i have to travel again. it was just too nice wandering and discovering new places, meet new people, trying new foods, communicating with locals, dealing and bargaining and most of all having no obligations at all... just living day by day and taking a new direction whenever we wanted
soooooo much fun... maybe too much...
anyway i better not think too much about it. we all have to go back to our normal lives after and that s good too. it s part of it.
making new experiences makes you treasure them...but i have seen too many people who traveled too much and didnt enjoy anymore and they were just being rude with locals and culture...
they made me feel ashamed of being so lucky to be able to go visit countries whose people will probably never be able to leave, not even for a short time.
anyway thanks Jordan for the package!

it s been quite a while now since i came back (6 month!!!) and i m still without job... making me slowly crazy this thing.
i m starting wanting to leave again and travel. i hate so much staying here doing nothing useful.
i mean switzerland isnt cheap to stay either... so it s just a waste...

the good thing is that at least i have time for reading and listening to some music
and that s what i ve been doing. discovering some new japanese bands (thanks Eli again, you truly are an endless source of good music !! =)
quite sad we dont get to know so much about japanese music here in europe... instead we get loads of american chart music, which is... well dont make me say it.
ok... have to stop complaining about music i dont like. i just wish people especially young would generally show a little more interest in music, rather than just buying top ten stuff.
i m not saying it s all bad, but that kind of music has more to do with marketing strategy than music... at least that is how i see it.

first week of may

this first week of may just went by too fast...
but not so much to say... still looking for a job, though it looks like there something again for a couple of weeks. it s better that nothing :)
anyway May is a month were there is so much to celebrate... a part from religious festivity, there is 1 of may, mothers day, victory day, most of my friends have birthday in the end of april & may...
and also a couple of nice memories of things happening
it s a nice month, one of my favorites =)

yep, we started working on the pureape album trying to check what is to do, how to proceed recording, which songs and and and... it s a lot of work for just 3 people.
but i hope it will be fnished in a couple of month, so we can finally have our small record and then we will see... there are some nice plans in the air.
and maybe we found a nice place to continue our alpinechic parties. but until it s definitive i dont want to say anything :P
also soon the radioshows on radio lora starting again... quite a lot of work... nice work =)

for the rest nothing special still listening to bill withers 'justments...
such an amazing undiscovered album that is not even available on reissue on cd...
man... wake up, labels!!

we've been having the first really warm days here in zurich
and i spent them reading, relaxing, bbq in the garden & enjoying new music, so nothing special to write about...
i took a couple of days off just from everything... =)

but i just got this Bill Withers record ripped from vinyl. amazing... such positive energy in his music, can make me feel well from the second i put it on.
and his career started like when he was 30something, so i can still make it too =P
i wonder if i can find the cd...

anyway tomorrow i ll be working on my music again and as usual reading newspapers for work...
cant wait too long, as i m sure soon i ll find a job and then i wont have so much time for it...

finally got some new music i ordered =) and after working yesterday until 3 am i ve been listening to this 2 over and over, so even i m not so good in writing reviews, here a couple of lines...

Joanna Newsom "The Milk-Eyed Mender"

This one is a little wonderful 12 song album, with only harp or piano and voice... very song oriented, easy going and relaxing. what can i say more: very nice (and she is too...)
which reminds that harp, has to be my favorite instrument... i just cant resist the sound of the harp whether its played classic, jazz or in this case pop...
lol but not to mention that i even own a kind of harp.. a chinese zither (actually called Guzheng), which sounds very similar... if i only knew how to play it :S

V.A. (Soul Jazz Records) "New Thing! "

This is a double cd collection of tracks from the 60-70s featuring artists like my favorite Alice Coltrane, Sun Ra, Rashied Ali, Archie Shepp and others i have yet to discover.
also an amazing funk track by Travis Biggs... it s a retrospective on black movement from this period and jazz avant garde. really cool stuff, though sometimes very difficoult to understand but anyway im quite stuck with jazz/soul now especially from the 70s... haha i used to be stuck with rock from the 70s then funk/rnb from the 70s...hopefully i wont get stuck with techno or alternative from the 70s....
but somehow most of the music released later on seems to miss that particular sound, the energy and the freshness...
i don t know what it is really, maybe im just obsessed, but to be honest nowadays most of the music is just one go... there is so much that is ok, but what is really outstanding? how many new bands/artists make it to release 3 good albums? i cant think of just one of them, but i really hope to be wrong on this issue...

yeah...we played again tonight and i had to play twice... i ll be posting some pictures tomorrow, now too tired...
even though tonight was not so full with people like the last 2 gigs, it is always fun to play... except for carring all the instruments.
but tonight as le zero, i only made a live mix of my songs and i didnt sing and it was better. but i will sing later again with the new songs and the guitar =)

yesterday i had to go shopping... as i was running out of food.. but now i bought so many things that i ll be hanging in the kitchen all the time...
yep food is definetely a passion for me, especially discovering new foods from different countries.
and it s almost a problem when i go shopping, especially in big malls (like yesterday) as i start buying all kind of things to try...
somehow i wasnt completely wrong when i studied food science, but i also know the working in a factory part... i just cant anymore.
maybe i could work in an import office... importing all kind of foods from middle east and asia, that would be great!!
but i m still hoping to find something in the music or audio business.
yep still looking for something better... who knows...

this weekend has been quite nice, went to see a concert from Tim and Puma Mimi, met a lot of people in know and new people, saw some friends i havent seen for almost one year and we talked about traveling...sigh sigh
traveling, also something i like too much.. i mean i dont like it traveling more than music, but if i think about traveling and making music at the same time... man... i hope this comes true one day even for a short time.

anyway quite intense weekend, now i finally have some time to write but i ll be leaving soon again.
wednesday it s gig again... and i m still not so sure about how to do my le zero set.
quite stressed for it, as now i m just too unhappy about my show, but what am i supposed to do in such short time?
if i could i would just leave it...

today i spent the whole day changing and updating the blog...
ok first i put all the releases in the links. not so sure who will listen, but i think my blog is getting linked here and there so... and besides doesnt it look cute??
then i changed the style again, but it looks as i ll change until i like it... that means i will change it forever :S

anyway today my wire may issue came in and i ve been reading and discovering new music... finally.
the cd included though a little disappointed me.

it s a collection of music from Berlin labels with electronica/experimental/pop/ambient
but there a couple of very good songs - Barbara Morgenstern & Robert Lippok "Please Wake Me For Meals", I.S.A.N. "Dinner At Sea (Live Markeb Mix)", Dominique "Souvenir"
the rest is too experi-mental or too minimalist for my taste. i mean i understand the instantaneousness (any better word for that?) and esthetics of minimalism, but in the long term i dont see how someone can listen to more than a couple of times to the same songs, since there is nothing really changing... dont know if you get what i m saying, but usually the best records are those who you have to listen many times before you like them...

very nice flowing & atmospheric music, with delayed guitars and keyboards & background noises reminding me of Harakami who has been one of the best discoveries this year so far...
it s a little hard to describe the genre.. down tempo indie-like...and add some electronic

This time much poppier and very dance oriented, with many guest artists (including Luomo!). havent heard this in depth, but i know i like it already.

in the wire i saw some ads by Soul Jazz Records, a label specialized in discovering and rereleasing old soul, jazz, funk and dub...
i ll have to find out more about this label... hopefully i can find some records around

yep today was the typical day with nothing special
except that i had chinese food for lunch and dinner
and that i finished working today and tomorrow i ll be jobless again
also i was telling my friends about traveling in china with someone
and that someone wrote me an email today (last one was like 3 months ago)
ok ok it wasnt a bad day.

anyway i m rethinking my le zero show as soon i ll be on stage again...
i cant seem to find a way to play gigs, without having to:
1. take with me half of the studio including pc, effects, mixer...
2. switch between mixing and singing (which is quite strange to see for an audience)
3. or then pretending to be doing something when i m doing nothing
also there is not one instrument on stage, some songs have voice but i dont sing
others have voice but i cant remember the text and last but not least when i do remember it, i probably sing out of tune.
and in the eventualiity that i do sing right, i just dont feel confident about just singing and doing nothing else.
i mean to be honest... if you d want to hear some electronic music, would you expect to see someone standing there alone and just singin?
kind of awkward, no? i mean i am not supposed to make a karaoke of myself, right?
so what am i supposed to do now? any ideas?? i have only have 7 days left....

for later gigs i ll take only my guitar, my hard disk and my beloved Roland Space Echo which a bought from someone who didnt know what it was hehe (paid 1/30 the price!!),
anyway since my new songs are all with guitar, i mean i will... play guitar and sing, along with the playbacks and maybe some keyboard player...
mmm not really sure...

wow... what a night yesterday
i dont know what is happening with the apes, but it seems that we are getting quite famous locally.
yesterday must have been the best gig i have ever played (the apes one), the people were all dancing and shouting again...
i dont get it.. nothing really changed, but suddendly its always full with enthousiastic people =)
nice though i must rethink my le zero set, make it more of a live performance, maybe find some other musicians.
anyway after the concert i think i had too much adrenaline flowing, we went to sleep soooo late and today i was quite devastated from the party...
man i wish we had roadies sometimes.

i ll be posting some pictures now before the gig... i dont have during... i was playing :P

yes finally after years of storing things all over the place i made it!
been working all day to build my closet and now my room looks sooo nice. =)
phew a lot of work..
only... :S the pavement is so old and since it s made of wood it s not straight...so the whole thing is a little balancing, but anyway happy

while i was working i listened to John Coltrane and i dont know how to explain, i dont really like it or understand it, it s so fast, chaotic and wild... there seems to be no harmonies or melodies but it fascinates me sooo much that i had to keep listening all day.
it s like hearing another language sometimes, you cant understand the words, but the whole sound of it just makes you... i dont really know how to explain..
but i think i need more of it.

also getting ready for tomorrow, there are 2 gigs to be played, one as le zero and one as pureape
for the last alpinechic evening planned so far.
i wasnt intented to play with the apes, but since my friend is still not so well, i will take his place.
but i hope there will be more evening like tomorrow even though...
lately we were both rethinking the whole netlabel issue and giving the music away for free.

we will probably start something new, and make a proper label with cds and records...
yeah also my new songs are way too good to just give them away... hehe
kidding.... or maybe not!
